Well, much of the good ol’ days were before my time. It was more like my grandfathers time, a time when people truly loved their country more than themselves because they appreciated the freedoms we have here. People wanted to serve their country back then, there was an honor in protecting the country and celebrating Independence Day. (not 4th of July, everybody has a July 4th, it is only here in our United States of America that we celebrate Independence Day on the 4th.)
It is amazing to see how that pride has been lost, there is part of me that wishes I could have experienced a part of that. I guess we actually did for a few weeks after 9/11 and it was amazing to see all of the flags and the uniting of people. Unfortunately it was short lived it did not take long to get back to the normal, selfish, daily grind we all live.
We are so blessed to live in this country and most people take it for granted. I do sometimes also, but I thank God for the opportunities I know we have compared to so many others in the world. No matter what side of the political fence you are on, conservative or not, red or blue, if you are a Christian we are called to pray for our leaders. God has them in place for a reason, and it may be a reason never revealed.
Remember and appreciate our freedom.
